About Us

The Attarwala family has been involved in the art and science of making attars for over 160 years.  Attar is the name given to the fragrant oils made from extracts of flowers, herbs, woods etc. The family name 'Attar'+'wala' means possessor of attar.  The Attarwala family traces its roots to the beautiful city of lakes, Udaipur, in the state of Rajasthan, India.  Udaipur is known not only for its lakes and majestic palaces but also for its art and culture in which flowers and fragrances have always occupied a prestigious position.  From Udaipur the main business activities were moved to the city of Bombay, India around 1940 by the late Mr. Mohammadali Attarwala.

In Bombay, Mr. Ismail M. Attarwala, the eldest son of Mr Mohammadali Attarwala, established Nemat Enterprises.  Nemat Enterprises is known for its large selection of high quality Indian attars and perfumes.  It is one of the most respected firms today in the perfumery trade in India because of its strong commitment to quality.  Its attars and perfumes have found wide appeal throughout the world.  At present the products are being exported to most countries in the Middle East, Malaysia, and The United Kingdom to name a few.  Nemat International® is a firm set up in the United States of America by the Attarwala family.

Nature has provided us with abundant sources of wonderful fragrances which can invoke deep feelings of joy, excitement or serenity within us.  Each of us is stirred by a variety of fragrances, may it be the fresh green note of the forest after a shower, the early morning scent of the earth or the ever present odors of the beautiful flowers.  A perfumer strives to capture the essence and beauty of the natural world as well as those of his feelings and thoughts in the perfumes he/she creates.  Each perfume is a work of art.  Some blends try to mimic the naturally occurring fragrances such as Rose, Jasmine, or Sandalwood, while other compositions are abstract pieces of art; a creation of the perfumer.  The Attarwala family has a unique history of preserving the traditional art and science of making perfumes and essential oils in India.  The knowledge has been passed down through the generations.  These are products truly cherished and nourished by a family.
